Introduction
The project
Spandau Ballet’s original voice finds new ways to explore song in Tony Hadley’s solo career. “True”, “Gold” and “Through the Barricades” are touchstones of a vocal identity that also embraces soul and swing, moving from the breadth of a ballad to the detail of phrasing. That contrast adds depth to the proposition, making room to reconnect with British pop and discover other settings for his interpretation. In theatres, festivals or galas, his musical world can suit programming centred on the voice and the memory of songs. This presentation features Tony Hadley under his own name; it is not a Spandau Ballet concert.
Career
Artistic journey
Tony Hadley gave voice to Spandau Ballet’s journey through the New Romantic movement and to songs such as “True”, “Gold” and “Through the Barricades”. His solo career opened another strand of work, bringing together his own repertoire and explorations of swing. Released in 2024, “The Mood I’m In” gives that strand recorded expression and helps place a musical interest extending beyond the pop ballad in context. His career includes performances with bands, swing ensembles and orchestras, exploring different relationships between voice and accompaniment. These formats belong to his artistic history, not to a line-up automatically included in every proposal. The common thread is interpretation: how the voice leads the melody and adapts its phrasing to different musical settings.
