Introduction
The SUMA make the spoken word an instrument in its own right, bringing it into conversation with jazz. Voice, saxophone and trumpet meet electronic elements in a sound where text and timbre share the spotlight. The wind instruments open up contrasts while the voice reflects on the world we live in. There is as much to discover between the words as in them: in sound, silence and the relationship between the performers. For concert halls, jazz series and programmes connecting literature with music, the project offers a distinctive artistic identity, with the format and setting confirmed for each event.
Career
The project began in Lisbon in 2022. Released in 2024, the album “SUMA” brings together eight tracks, including “Senhora de Juiz”, “As minhas irmãs”, “Se não fosse eu morríamos todos” and “Fado do homem mau”. The record places the relationship between voice and wind instruments at the heart of a language combining jazz, spoken word and sonic experimentation. The group’s video archive also includes recordings at Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Teatro São Luís and Pensão Amor, offering a view of different settings for their live work. Booking & Beyond supports availability enquiries and the artistic and technical planning of each proposal.
