Introduction
The project
The Rock Orchestra brings rock and metal into an orchestral setting, drawing on a rotating collective of classically trained musicians and vocalists. Familiar songs take on different instrumental textures while retaining the energy at the heart of the original material. Strings, voices and gothic stage imagery give the project a distinctive musical and visual character. Its repertoire crosses generations, with interpretations of music associated with Metallica, Evanescence, System of a Down and The Cranberries. Rather than representing a single original band, the ensemble explores a broader rock and metal songbook. The result is a theatrical concert concept built around the interaction between orchestral arrangements, recognisable melodies and the collective presence of its performers.
Career
Artistic journey
Producer and creative director Nathan Reed created The Rock Orchestra in 2020, with its first UK tour following in 2021. Its international development included a debut US tour in 2023 alongside performances across the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. The project subsequently extended its work beyond the stage with Classics Vol. 1, its debut album, released in October 2025. The record includes new interpretations of Thunderstruck, Numb and Stairway to Heaven. In 2026, Arena of Fire introduced an arena production within the project's wider live programme. Together, the tours, recordings and evolving stage formats chart an ensemble developing its own presentation of rock music through orchestral performance, without restricting the concept to one original artist. This is a reinterpretation project, distinct from the bands whose repertoire it performs.
