Introduction

The project

Teresa Tapadas brings from Riachos a connection to fado and Ribatejo’s musical traditions, placing her voice at the service of words and melody. Her interpretation makes room for the story each text tells and the emotion that can grow from a phrase, a pause or a change in intensity. A career spanning recitals, collective projects and live recordings helps place that attention to song in context. For theatres and fado programmes, the proposition can offer a listening encounter centred on lyrics and vocal expression. Her closeness to Portuguese repertoire is the starting point for music that invites audiences to follow the meaning of each song.

Career

Artistic journey

In 1997, Teresa Tapadas took part in “Raízes Rurais, Paixões Urbanas”, by Ricardo Pais and Mário Laginha, presented at Teatro São João, Cité de la Musique and Teatro da Trindade. She appeared at Expo 98 and, in 2000, received the Voz Revelação do Fado distinction from Casa da Imprensa and Jornal de Notícias. She also participated in Entrevozes and Quatro Cantos. Her solo discography includes “Meu Grão de Paraíso” from 2004 and “Traços de Fado” from 2012. Her December 2014 concert at CCB led to “Teresa Tapadas ao Vivo no CCB”. These experiences connect individual work with encounters with other performers, showing different settings for a voice rooted in fado and Portuguese song.
