Introduction
“Te Quiero Havana” grows from Mário Moita’s encounter with Cuban musicians and places Portuguese song in dialogue with bolero, son and salsa. Voice, piano and references to Portuguese guitar meet other approaches to rhythm, creating a passage between listening to melody and the impulse to dance. Recorded in Havana, the project places the meeting of repertoires at its artistic centre without erasing each song’s origins. For festivals, theatres and programmes devoted to Portugal and Latin America, it offers a concept that can connect different audiences through the familiarity of a song or the discovery of another way to feel it.
Career
Recorded at Estúdios Abdala in Havana, the album was produced by Gastón Joya and features Jorge Silva on Portuguese guitar. Released on 8 May 2026, it contains twelve tracks, including “Aquellos Ojos Verdes”, with Omara Portuondo, and “Bajo un Palmar”, with Barbarito Torres. “Nem às Paredes Confesso” and “Lisboa Menina e Moça” locate the Portuguese presence in this meeting of repertoires. The live presentation “Gira Latina” broadens the dialogue to Spanish and Latin American references, from ballads to danceable rhythms. The record and concert belong to the same world but do not necessarily have the same participants: recording contributions do not imply the guests’ presence on stage, and the cast is confirmed for each event.
