Introduction

The project

Quarteto dos Mares finds common ground between classic jazz, bossa nova and international pop. Voice, piano, bass and drums shape a lounge concert in which references such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobim coexist with Portuguese songs associated with Mariza and Rui Veloso. The repertoire’s diversity allows different ways of listening: following a familiar melody, discovering another musical treatment or hearing the dialogue between voice and instruments. With an elegant, romantic identity, the project can suit cultural programmes, hotels and corporate events. The proposition brings distinct repertoires together within a unified musical atmosphere without erasing the personality of each song.

Career

Artistic journey

The quartet comprises Tiago Ramos on drums and musical direction, Nani Teixeira on bass, Luís do Vale on piano and Raquel Ângelo on vocals. This voice-and-rhythm-section line-up organises the meeting of different references: the vocal jazz of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, Tom Jobim’s bossa nova and Portuguese song associated with Mariza and Rui Veloso. The lounge concept grows from that combination, suggesting a concert that appeals both to those seeking standards and to those drawn by the pop references. Its romantic character and attention to melody provide a connecting thread. The line-up, repertoire and setting are reconfirmed for each date.
