Introduction

The project

Midge Ure brings guitar, synthesizers and songwriting together in a language connecting British new wave with his solo work. The voice associated with “Vienna”, with Ultravox, and “If I Was” also finds expression in instrumental music, between precisely shaped songs and atmospheres that invite closer listening. That balance brings performer and songwriter into view within the same career. In theatres and festivals, the proposition can appeal both through memories of electronic pop and the exploration of other sonic textures. This is Midge Ure under his own name: the historical connection with Ultravox provides context for his work, but does not announce a performance by the band.

Career

Artistic journey

Midge Ure’s career took him through Slik, Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy and Visage before and around his involvement with Ultravox, which began in 1979. “Vienna” became a reference point for that period. With Band Aid, he co-wrote and co-produced “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, while his solo career reached No. 1 in the UK with “If I Was”. In 2026, he released “A Man of Two Worlds”, arranged in two parts: eight instrumental pieces and eight songs. That division gives clear form to two sides of his work, exploring sonic atmospheres and writing for the voice. Together, these different experiences reveal a musician who uses electronics and guitar as songwriting resources, rather than boundaries between genres.
