Introduction
The project
London Calling revisits The Clash as a repertoire with many directions: punk guitars, reggae grooves and an openness to new wave. The British tribute from Bristol places band performance at its centre, reconnecting listeners with songs such as “London Calling”, “Rock the Casbah” and “Should I Stay or Should I Go” through their contrasts of rhythm and attitude. For venues and festivals, the proposition can suit a rock night that also makes room for the honoured band’s musical diversity. Guitar energy is only part of the story; the other part is how different songs find a shared drive. This is an independent tribute, with no official association with The Clash.
Career
Artistic journey
London Calling began in 2003 for a charity concert, the year after Joe Strummer’s death, and continued beyond that first performance. Their career includes tours of the UK, Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. The line-up presented in the catalogue comprises Reg Shaw and Dave Devonald on guitars and vocals, Abel Markou-Inglis on bass and vocals, and James Wise on drums. Their repertoire devoted to The Clash may span “White Riot”, “London Calling” and “Rock the Casbah”, among other songs. That range connects different periods of the honoured band without limiting the proposition to one sound. The project does not involve The Clash or an official association; the line-up and setlist must be confirmed for each performance.
