Introduction
In Judith Mateo’s hands, the violin takes the lead and finds new possibilities in rock, folk and pop. The Spanish violinist and composer combines original pieces with fresh interpretations of familiar melodies, bringing the instrument’s expressiveness closer to the pulse of a band. The appeal lies in the contrasts: a melodic phrase may invite attentive listening, while the rhythm changes the energy of the whole. For festivals and venues, the proposition opens several ways in, from curiosity about the violin to familiarity with popular repertoire. That movement between musical languages gives identity to a project in which the instrument is not simply accompaniment, but the songs’ lead voice.
Career
Time spent in Ireland and contact with the country’s traditional music helped shape Judith Mateo’s vocabulary. Works such as “Rock Is My Life” and “ViolinARTE” developed the connection between violin, popular repertoire and original creation, in a career featuring performances in Spain, Japan and Latin America. In January 2026, Maldito Records released “enviDIOSA”, bringing original compositions and covers together, with vocal contributions from Chuse Joven on “El Proveedor” and “Siempre”. The album continues the relationship between instruments and songs running through her work. Violin-led melody and the pulse of rock offer two listening perspectives on that world; line-up and repertoire are confirmed for each proposal.
