Introduction

The project

Incisive guitar, harmonica, bass and drums give Dr. Feelgood a direct musical language, born from the meeting of rhythm and blues and British pub rock. “Roxette”, “Down at the Doctors” and “Milk and Alcohol” locate a rhythmically driven repertoire in which phrasing and instrumental interplay matter as much as the chorus. The story begins on Canvey Island, but the proposition continues beyond the original line-up. For venues and festivals devoted to blues and rock and roll, this is a programming possibility centred on the sound of a band: hearing the dialogue between instruments, following the rhythm and reconnecting with songs that define different moments in this career.

Career

Artistic journey

Formed on Canvey Island in the early 1970s, Dr. Feelgood established themselves on the pub rock circuit. “Down by the Jetty” opened their discography in 1975, and the live recording “Stupidity” reached No. 1 in the UK in 1976. “Milk and Alcohol” added another milestone to a repertoire including “Roxette” and “Down at the Doctors”. The band continued beyond the original line-up; the project presented in the catalogue brings together Robert Kane on vocals and harmonica, Gordon Russell on guitar, Phil Mitchell on bass and Kevin Morris on drums. “Damn Right”, released in 2022, added an album entirely devoted to original compositions. That continuity links memories of the first recordings with later creativity, keeping rhythm and blues as its musical reference point.
