Introduction
Cutting Crew builds its identity at the meeting point of guitars, vocal performance and pop-rock melodies. Led by co-founder Nick Van Eede, the project has a central reference in “(I Just) Died in Your Arms”, while the storytelling of “I’ve Been in Love Before” offers another way into the same world. Between intensity and restraint, the songs make room for the chorus without losing their attention to musical atmosphere. For venues and festivals, the proposition can connect memories of 1980s radio with the discovery of the band’s later chapters. Its appeal is not simply recognising a song, but also placing it within a career in which melody has continued to guide different forms of presentation.
Career
Nick Van Eede and guitarist Kevin Scott MacMichael founded Cutting Crew in 1985. Their debut single, “(I Just) Died in Your Arms”, reached No. 1 in the United States and appeared on “Broadcast”, an album that also includes “I’ve Been in Love Before”. “The Scattering” and “Compus Mentus” followed before the original line-up split. In 2005, Van Eede revived the Cutting Crew name with other musicians and the album “Grinning Souls”. The later period includes “Add to Favourites” and orchestral reworkings of the band’s songs on “Ransomed Healed Restored Forgiven”. From the original line-up to new interpretations of the repertoire, the career traces the enduring melodies and the changing settings that have given them different colours over time.
