Introduction
The accordion leads Boémios Tocadores on a journey through Portuguese popular music, bringing together regions, songs and ways of celebrating. In “Volta a Portugal em Acordeão”, the trio travels through references from Minho to the Azores, combining familiar songs, originals and a tribute to Quim Barreiros. Closeness to the audience is part of the concept: listening, responding and participating can turn the concert into a shared social occasion. For community festivities, traditional celebrations, fairs and municipal summer programmes, the proposition has a natural affinity with collective celebration. Its appeal lies in how musical memory and humour meet, giving popular repertoire a space shared by musicians and audience.
Career
Boémios Tocadores brings together three musicians connected to the founding of Tuna Seistetos at the University of Évora, who reunited around Portuguese popular music. That shared experience gave rise to “Volta a Portugal em Acordeão”, a show organised as a journey through different regions, from Minho to the Azores. Familiar songs are joined by previously unreleased material and a tribute segment devoted to Quim Barreiros, with the accordion connecting the pieces. Audience interaction brings the concert closer to the atmosphere of a traditional community celebration and continues the sociable dimension behind the project’s origins. Musical memory, humour and participation thus form a proposition that can suit fairs, traditional celebrations and local festivities.
