Introduction
Shared vocals, direct melodies and dance rhythms define the world of Bananarama, now developed by Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward. “Cruel Summer”, “Venus” and “Love in the First Degree” locate a pop sound in which the chorus is a meeting point and singing together is part of the identity. Later records continue that relationship between song and dance floor, opening the repertoire beyond its 1980s references. For festivals, summer celebrations and retro programmes, the duo can connect different memories of pop. The appeal of the proposition lies precisely in that continuity: recognising a familiar language and hearing how it has travelled through different periods of the same project.
Career
Bananarama began with Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward and Siobhan Fahey, building a catalogue that developed different facets in “Cruel Summer”, “Robert De Niro’s Waiting” and “Venus”. The latter reached No. 1 in the United States. With Sara and Keren as a duo, studio work continued with “In Stereo” in 2019 and “Masquerade” in 2022, produced by Ian Masterson. In 2024, “Glorious” revisited the repertoire and included “Feel the Love”. These recordings connect the best-known hits with later periods, without reducing the story to a single decade. The connection to dance and the meeting of the two voices remain central to a career that combines new songs with a return to its own musical memories.
